The Jazz Age

  Jazz arose in New Orleans in the early 1920's and gripped the country.It reached major cities and rural towns in between. At first, jazz was considered the Devil's music, but gradually it became widely accepted and played at dance halls and speakeasies alike. First followers of jazz were an African American audience. They were the creaters of jazz and also created new dances to go with the new music. Such dances included the bunny hug and the shimmy.
   Famous jazz singers and musicians included Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Jelly Roll Morton. Jazz was thrust into the mainstream by the expanding usage of phonographs and added sound to motion pictures. Record companies such as Gennette and Paramount were siging on obscure talents who were given a chance and rose to fame.

Broadway!

  Broadway's busiest decade was that of the 1920's.Over 50 new musicals would open in a single season.Prices for seats were $3.50 and were always in demand.
  Broadway was considered the hang out. Celebrities, millionaires, and mobsters alike went to see shows and performances. A famous patrons of Broadway was baseball player Babe Ruth, Floe Zigfield, a famous performer, and Arnold Rothstein.
   Writers of Broadway plays and musical tried to create serious and quality entertainment while still trying to rake in a profit. Classics were born and the 20's would define what Broadway was truly about which would resonate generations later. 
   Famous actors and actresses of Broadway were Tallulah Bankhead,Louise Brooks, Evelyn Nesbit, and Charles Gilpin. Gilpin was the first African American to take the stage on Broadway. Starring in Eugene O'Neill's The Emporer's Jones, Gilpin was named in the top ten people who had advanced American theater in the 1920's by the Drama Leage.
  Broadway was defined in the 1920's and has been considered its Golden Age. New forms of music and entertainment came together to not only influence music, but the entertainment industry as a whole.http://youtu.be/lrXOv92kxuQ
